Thursday March 10, 2005

In the morning I awoke at 5:00 so my biological clock is still not 100% adjusted. I went to have an early dinner. Actually I was way to early and the restaurant was not completely ready for guests. I had some coffee and a light breakfast and then I went to the lobby to wait for Guillermo. I had about 45 minutes and had the chance for some reading. Guillermo picked me up early and I was at the office at 7:30. I called my wife and started working on some things and wrote in my diary.
The training started at 9:00 and we repeated the exercises of today's session we did yesterday. Some people had some very smart questions already. Especially Daniel and Veronica were really picking things up fast. The session went well and we finished around 12:00. Guillermo came to the training for a evaluation and asked the participants for their opinion about the training and we got some good feedback. The reviews were all very positive. I rounded up the last session by making some last comments about how people could contact me if they have any questions and I handed out the certificates. Everybody was very pleased with them. Some people staid to do some more reports, and that really pleased me.
Ricardo had arranged for a lunch in the training room with sandwiches. Around 13:00 all trainees had left and only Lisbeet and Ricardo staid to talk about Lotus Notes development. I showed a couple of databases I have created and then we talked about the application Lisbeet is currently working on. She also showed me what she had created so far. She still has a lot to learn. The application for purchase requisitions will be a big challenge for her. I advised her about a couple of techniques she could use and promised to help her on this application. The part for uploading information from Lotus Notes to the AS400 will be something that I will try to find out, for I haven't done anything like that myself either.
During the afternoon Veronica came in to ask me if I could help her on a GSA report she was creating for Marco. I went over to her office to help her out. It really was nice to see that they are already using the GSA to do their daily work. This was what the training was all about in the end.
At 17:00 I went back to the IT department to help Lourdes with Optio. She had been working on the TAXES form and we tried adding a barcode. Then we also made a start with the bulk label. She was very enthusiastic to see how fast we could create something. The bulk label also has some barcode fields and the first result was very promising. We tried installing the Optio Designer client on her PC but had the same problems with FTP for getting the forms to download on the PC. We got Felippe to help us on this issue but were unable to solve the problem.
Around 19:00 I packed my laptop and we left the office to go to dinner. We were going to have dinner with all the people from the IT department. I drove with Felipe and we stopped at a cash machine to get some pesos for the taxi tomorrow. We arrived at the restaurant where Ricardo and I had dinner on Monday. The others were already there. We had a nice dinner with really good food and wine. The first bottle of wine Ricardo had ordered was a Mexican Cabernet Sauvignon. I ordered the second bottle, which was a Saint Emillion. There was live music and later on in the evening a mariachi band came in to play music for a birthday party that was going on in a side room. They played very good. Ricardo had a good time singing along with all the songs. He had been drinking a lot the whole evening and I thing he might have had just a little too much. I had tequila in the end and it was served the traditional way. I liked it a lot. Ricardo advised me to get a bottle of good tequila tomorrow at the duty free shop at the airport.
We left at 24:30 and I said goodbye to all my colleagues who I have been working with very closely during this trip. I really enjoyed their friendly cooperation the last week and I hope we will continue this good working relation and friendship in the future. Ricardo and Lisbeet drove me to the hotel and there we said goodbye. Around 1:00 I went to bed.
