I was sleeping really
well the last night, because I woke from the alarm at 6:15. I got out
and had breakfast at 6:45. After that I went back to my room to pack my
suitcase and call my wife one last time before I leave. I checked out
at 7:30 and took a taxi to the airport.
It was a 30-minute drive so I arrived at the airport at 8:00, where I
went to the United Airlines desk to check in. I passed customs at 8:30
and went shopping in the duty free shops. I did buy me a bottle of tequila
and a bottle of sangrita. I also bought the Dan Brown book Angels and
Dragons, which was recommended to me by Guillermo. It turned out that
I already have the book in Dutch it is called "Het Bernini Mysterie",
but I will enjoy reading it again in English. I bought some more souvenirs
to get rid of my last pesos and then I went to a café to have a
coffee and read some. I was ready the "Da Vinci Code" and I
almost finished it during this trip. I was so concentrated at reading
that I totally forgot time so I had to hurry to get to the gate on time.
At 9:45 I boarded and at 10:15 the plane took off. We arrived at Washington
at 14:45 so it was only a 3 and a half hour flight, but there is a one-hour
time difference. The last part was a bit of a rough ride; there was some
turbulence because of rain clouds above Washington. We had to pass through
Customs and Immigration again and recheck the luggage.
From 16:00 until 17:30 I had time to do some reading while waiting on
my next flight to Amsterdam. When we boarded I found out I had a really
bad seat; it was the middle seat of a row of three and all the way in
the back of the plain. To the right a big guy was sitting and to my left
a grandma, who travelled with her grandchildren and of course they wanted
to sit with her. I did hardly sleep during the flight.
